At the end of the spring semester, the University recognizes outstanding student achievement at the Academic Awards Assembly. Collegiate and Departmental awards are given based on achievement in specific academic disciplines. The Asian Studies Academic Achievement Award – Marcus Corby (2026)
The Asian Studies Academic Achievement Award is presented to seniors for achievement and excellence in Asian Studies.
Brother Corby immersed himself in Japanese language and culture at CWRU, including 4 years of Japanese language classes and a semester of study abroad in Tokyo, Japan studying Japanese culture. After graduation, Brother Corby will be working in Japan
The Chair’s Award & The Andrew R. Jennings Award – Adam Hutchings (2026)
The Mathematics Chair’s Award is presented to a student contributing to the intellectual life of the majors program. The Andrew R. Jennings Award is presented to a senior for excellence in computer science.
In the Math department, Brother Hutchings served as Vice President of the Math Club and started a mentorship program for upperclassman to mentor underclassman. In the Computer Science department, Brother Hutchings presented quantum computing research at a conference during his sophomore year, maintained a 4.0 GPA in-major GPA, and served as a TA four times.
The Donald A. Glaser Award & The Josephine and Andrew Okun Physics Student Research Award – Ege Dalcan (2026)
The Donald A. Glaser Award is presented each year to an outstanding mathematics and physics students. The Josephine and Andrew Okun Physics Student Research Award is presented to a leading student in Astroparticle Physics.
Brother Dalcan has been working with Dr. Corbin Covault and other students and researchers to develop equipment, communication networks, and data acquisition systems to help compare data between the high energy astroparticle detection arrays at Pierre Auger in Argentina and Telescope Array in Utah. This work would help isolate the differences between hardware and testing methods between the two arrays to make comparison and cross-referencing of data easier. Brother Dalcan developed the communication network for this new test equipment that would not interfere with Telescope Array’s existing communication network. Brother Dalcan is a previous winner of the James C. Wyant award for undergraduate physics research.
The James C. Wyant Award – Eric Yarnot (2026)
This award is presented to one undergraduate each year by the Physics department for research accomplishments outside the senior project.
Brother Yarnot has been working with Professor Glenn Starkman, Brother Michel Cogliano, Brother Arda Oral, and other undergraduate researchers to create mathematical models for the shape of the universe. These models will be cross referenced against data gathered from cosmic background radiation to prove or disprove potential topologies of a finite universe.
